Overview

Kibale National Park is an extensive forested park (795 sq km) and it's best known for its primate population and chimpanzee tracking. It contains one of the loveliest and most diverse tracts of tropical forests in Uganda encompassing moist evergreen forest containing a diverse array of landscapes, Kibale is one of the last remaining expanses to contain both lowland and montane forests. With nearly 1500 chimpanzees and 13 other primate species, Kibale has the most Chimpanzees in Uganda and Africa in general! Different primates including the remarkable L'Hoest's Monkey, the red colobus, black and white colobus, blue monkey, dark cheeked mangabey and olive baboon.

Occasionally you will catch a glimpse of the forest elephant, bison, leopard, shrubbery pig and duiker. Kibale is also a prominent destination for birders. A rosta of 375 animal types inhabit these woodlands, meadows and marshes. A wide range of fauna can be sought in the woods at Kanyanchu and Sebitoli which are key travel industry destinations and also in the network around the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on the edge of the park close to Kanyanchu.
