Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its ecological importance, the Bwindi National Park is located in the southwestern region of Uganda. It is famed for being the home of the mountain gorilla but is also host to a unique diversity of both flora and fauna. Flanking the DRC and in the south-west corner of the country, parts of the park stretch out over 2,600m above sea level and encompass the ongoing tension between afro-montane woodland and the encroaching cultivated fields, Bwindi's vine-shrouded, greenery with its rich overhangs makes a safe environment for the highly endangered mountain gorilla. It is one of only three places on the planet where guests can follow guides to meet these magnificent primates.

Around 340 of the remaining world mountain gorilla population are found in this backwoods. Bwindi National Park covers an area of 331 sq km, revered for its unique ecology with more than 1,000 kinds of blossoming plants, 310 butterflies, 350 winged creatures, plus over 120 other species. Colobus monkeys and chimpanzees can be seen swinging between trees, teasing the turacos and hornbills on the way.
